These little white specs in the center of the cells are fresh eggs placed carefully by the queen. In about three days they will turn into a larva. Each larva is fed by the female nurse bees. During the first couple days of the larva’s life it’s given a white liquid called royal jelly. It’s a substance made and secreted by a gland in the nurse bees . After a few days they will start feeding the larva a different food that consist of pollen and nectar commonly known as bee bread. Eventually they will cap the larva in the cell with wax where it will continue to grow. After about 21-22 days the larva will be completely changed into a honeybee and will emerge.

I got the privilege of spending a couple days showing the joys of beekeeping to a bunch of awesome Logan Elm 4th graders at the historic Mt. Oval farm. They asked so many great questions. I love this part of beekeeping 🐝

We bought packages this year for the first time in many years. Hoping to put some new genetics in our apiary. These girls will be placed in their new homes tomorrow.
